Do you feel unsure about how to handle important discussions with your major prof or other influential individuals? This consultation will help you improve your English language skills, plan, and conduct important face-to-face interactions.

OECT for International Teaching Assistants

All international graduate students who are offered a teaching assistantship need to meet the oral English language proficiency requirement and be certified through the Oral English Certification Test (OECT). See OECT test and registration dates, test guide, score guide, and more.

English Speaking Courses

Students are placed in GR ST 540 based on their results on the Oral English Certification Test (OECT). Classes are kept small to allow individualized instruction. Priority is given to students who are currently on TA appointments.

Peer Speaking Practice Groups

Facilitated English speaking groups provide the opportunity to build everyday English conversation and academic/professional spoken English proficiency for international students in various disciplines.

Public Speaking Practice Groups

Public speaking groups provide the opportunity to prepare for nationally competitive conference presentations such as the 3MT, academic or research presentations, or even thesis/dissertation defense presentations.
