Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching
“Our collaborations with the CCE have transformed how we help future professors create strong faculty job applications in the Preparing Future Faculty program. With the help of the CCE, our participants are now able to express themselves with clear purpose. The CCE has been a wonderful partner and we are thrilled to see so many of our participants landing their dream jobs.”

Ivy College of Business Communications Center
"The Ivy College of Business Communications Center has partnered with the Center for Communication Excellence for many years now. We share a common vision of creating strong communication across campus, and the Center for Communication Excellence has helped foster that vision by offering services in writing and speaking for ISU graduate students. In addition, the Center for Communication Excellence has also worked hard to develop unique resources such as the RWT that give students a leg up in the competitive and confusing world of academic writing."
Jamie Sass, Assistant Director
Department of English
"The Center for Communication Excellence provides graduate students in the English Department with crucial research-based writing training."
Volker Hegelheimer, Chair
Nationally Competitive Awards and University Honors Program
"The CCE consultants do a great job helping students improve their writing skills. In my role working with candidates applying to prestigious national fellowships (Rhodes, Truman, Goldwater, etc.) requiring high-quality writing-both personal and research statements-my partnership with the CCE has been invaluable. The consultants' expertise and willingness to go the extra mile to help students succeed is commendable. I look forward to continued collaboration and success as Iowa State students apply for and win valuable fellowships and life-changing opportunities!"
Laura Good, Assistant Director
Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program
"The purpose of the McNair Program of the Graduate College is to prepare first-generation and underrepresented undergraduates (juniors and seniors) for entry to graduate school and the attainment of the Ph.D. through exposure to research and other scholarly activities. We’ve been working with a CCE trained interdisciplinary writing consultant since January 2017 and it’s been a wonderful additional component to our program. The class discussions and the one-on-one consultations about research writing, oral and poster presentations, and graduate admissions essays have been extremely valuable to learning. We will continue this excellent collaboration throughout the cycle of the grant."
Thelma Harding, Director
“Providing space for CCE writing consultants and the Dissertation/Thesis Boot Camps at Parks Library is a tangible way to support the services that CCE provides to graduate students. The collaboration between the Library and the CCE also provides opportunities for graduate students to explore the connections between conducting and communicating research. We are delighted to be able to assist students through this partnership.”
Christine E. King, Associate Dean for Research and Instruction Services
"It has been a joy to work with CCE in the Library. By combining our expertise, we have been able to produce a wonderful partnership for engaging with and educating ISU graduate students. With CCE, I have created collaborative programming and workshops about topics like publishing, research, and Open Access that could not have succeeded as well without their support, and I am thankful for CCE's continued partnership with the ISU Library."
Abbey Elder, Open Access and Scholarly Communication Librarian
International Students and Scholars Office
"The CCE provides our graduate students exemplary service for improving their communication skills. I am confident that students who seek help from CCE will have a better understanding of how to craft an effective and engaging thesis or dissertation. I appreciate that Sarah Huffman from CCE has been able to present to the International Student Graduate Learning Community (ISGLC). It was helpful for new and continuing international graduate students to be aware of the different programs and assistance available to them."
Deb Vance, Associate Director
LAS Study Abroad
"LAS Study Abroad is looking forward to collaborating with the Center for Communication Excellence to support students to increase their chances of securing funding to make their study abroad endeavors possible!"
Ginger Nally, Study Abroad Adviser
"CCE has been and continues to be a tremendous collaborative and creative partner in developing programming to assist graduate students. What a wonderful resource!"
